So I’m heading back to Bennington this week and I just wanted to share a few of the things I’ve learned in my time with the AOMC. For Field Work Term I knew I wanted to work with a dance company in NYC, and Sarah needed an intern. I didn’t know much about her or the company but decided to take on the job. I am so glad I did. I have done work studies and residencies with other dance companies, but I’ve never experienced the business side of running a company. I helped with grant applications, show preparation, fundrasing, social networking, and video making and posting. I think the most important and succinct thing I’ve learned is that there is so much more to being a part of the dance industry than just being a skilled dancer. You need to be business savy, attention getting, and have fabulous ideas and the means to create and support them.
Thanks Sarah and the AOMC for having me!
