a.k.a. how it feels to be born
Right now is a crazy time.
Imagine having full consciousness while you’re still in the womb, and knowing that you’re about to be born. That’s kind of what right now, waiting for our premiere to hit, and feeling the first contractions of ticket sales, advertising, and facebook buzz feels like. It’s crazy to surpassing the point of “okay, deep breaths” and feeling more like the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey – all I can wrap my head around is that we’ve been developing and developing, and now we’re about to all of a sudden be something that’s still us, but completely different. After next weekend, we will suddenly have a Context and a History in a way that I hadn’t even thought to imagine. And it feels fantastic.
Well buckle up, kiddies, cause here’s the first contraction: Brian McCormick’s lovely and nuanced (if we don’t say so ourselves…) preview of 90 ways to Wake from drowning for Gay City News. Brian writes:
In “90 ways to Wake from drowning,” a new work that will have its debut at Joyce SoHo on July 30 and 31, choreographer Sarah A.O. Rosner and her A.O. Movement Collective communicate a profound hopelessness but also a tenderness — and queerness — that embodies the new American generation.
We’re blushing! Read the rest of the review here.
